Norio Coffee Table

Designed By Hugh Miller

Made from elm and influenced by Japanese design, the Norio has gently tapering sides and brass detailing.  A hand carved underside brings tactility and a sense of discovery which connects the user with the craftsman. The elm is finished in a clear oil to bring out its natural grain pattern.

About the designer

Hugh Miller

Hugh’s work is based on a set of design principles, developed during his Churchill Research Fellowship in 2015. His designs deliver a quietness of articulation and lightness in both materials and form and once they are inspected, reward the observant viewer with previously unseen detail.

Thoughtful detailing

The Hand of the Maker

The finely tapered edges of the Norio make the top appear to float; brass pins add richness and contrast and a sliding dovetail connects the top to the legs allowing the solid timber to move with the seasons. All of these details make this piece special but the ‘pièce de résistance’ is the textured underbelly, hand-carved into each piece connecting the user to the craftsman who made it.
