Muse Sofa by Space Copenhagen

Benchmark at 100% Design

19-22 September 2018, Olympia, London

At this year’s 100% Design Exhibition during London Design Festival, we will be launching two new sofas designed by Space Copenhagen – the Muse and Gleda are both founded on a shared belief in the value of craft and a trust in natural materials.

Visitors to the exhibition will also be able to see our craftsmen at work making furniture for one of our projects.

Muse Sofa

A tribute to Donald Judd’s radical and minimalist universe, Space Copenhagen has reinterpreted the Muse Sofa for cosy and relaxed modern lounging, playing with proportions and softer details to meet new demands in both domestic and hospitality environments.  Made from oak or ash with a choice of subtly toned finishes that allow the beauty of the grain to be exposed, Muse is offered with or without integrated side tables and designed to be adapted into L shapes, U shapes and bespoke sizes.

GLEDA SOFA

The new Gleda Sofa, is an extension to the Gleda Collection which also includes easy chairs, occasional tables and dining chair.  Founded on Space Copenhagen’s curiosity to develop a new interpretation of the classic spindle chair, Gleda is made in oak with solid brass detailing. It’s neat size and choice of with/without arms, makes it a flexible design for a wide variety of spaces.

“At the core of our work with Space Copenhagen lies a shared belief in the value of craft and making things that will last – both aesthetically and physically. Our mutual trust and belief in the pleasure gained from natural materials – wood, wool and leather, is expressed in these simple, elegant designs.” Sean Sutcliffe, Benchmark co-founder

OVO COLLECTION

Alongside these new designs will be our recently launched OVO collection designed by Foster and Partners which includes dining tables, occasional tables, benches, stools and storage made in oak or walnut. With soft geometry and a crafted aesthetic, these are tactile pieces with warmth and generosity.  The boldness and simplicity of Foster + Partners design demands perfection in execution of our craft.

TALK: 'Recasting'

Friday 21st September 2pm, Auditorium

A look into one of the Venice Biennale’s current highlights: Recasting is a collaboration between Alison Brooks Architects and Benchmark, bringing methodologies of furntiure making to an architectural scale. The talk will explore the processes of realising this immense project from initial abstract conception through to completion.
